Kappa Squadron Report of March 4th 2001

It's monday noon and every member of Kappa Squadron is still
lying in bed, avoiding the exposure to stray photons (light) at all costs.
every member?
No. a sadistic FL, who has been left in charge for this
week has just finished setting up his Ultra-Lux Flood-light
system paired with his eardrum breaker style Sound system.

HEEEEEEEEEEEELLOOOOOOOOOO KAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPAAAAAAA!



It has been a really quiet week. Considering that we've
some comps running, it's quite surprising.

What we are going to do:

Gentlemen: get the Ewoks out of your engines and get them started (the
engines, not the Ewoks). We've got some missions to fly.

- Fly Free TIE # 27 for the Wing II League Deadline is March 10th

- recruit! we need more newbies for medical experiments!!! Oh, and for
flying.. :)

- Fly, fly, fly. We're right in the middle of an FCHG-point race
with/against Wing VI. Fly anything, on any platform and any skill
level (I'd prefer hard, because you'll have the chance of getting
highscores)
Deadline is March 31st let's make some Lord of the TIEs, will we?

- After almost everyone in the wing seemed to have ignored the poetry
comp, including EVERYONE from Kappa, LT Fred the Mighty has decided to
call it a practice round, and set a new deadline. I want all of you to
participate in the new round. It doesn't have to be a ballade, but
seeing a fellow Wing member drinking a lot more than what's healthy, because
amost no one participated in his comp, isn't one of the things I like
to see.
Write something!! Deadline is March 20th

SCOA Wanted

Yep, the Science Office is hiring again. I've decided to take on a Science Office Assistant to aid with news collection & misc duties. Primarily, the new SCOA's role will be to perform a daily check of several major gaming and editing news sites and to post details on any relevant items to the Science Office web site. Secondarily, the new SCOA will be asked to aid in various occasional duties such as patch testing, document reviewing & idea formulation.

The requirements for SCOA are as follows:
* Must be able to check several (6-12+) major web sites at least once a day.
* Must have a good command of the English language, able to type news items without typos or spelling errors.
* Must have a 24 hours email response time.
* Must be trustworthy and familiar with EH rules & regulations.
* Must have some familiarity with slicing terminology in at least one field or platform.


Applications should be emailed to Kermee@softhome.net, cc'ing darkhill@emperorshammer.ca with the subject of "SCOA Application". Applications should be sent no latter than Monday 12th March 2001, all applications will receive a confirmation of receipt. Please do not just list yourself as fulfilling the requirements but actually explain why you would make a better SCOA than someone else. Also note that bugging me on IRC about who has applied or what decisions have been made will not improve you chances.

It seems the updates I made to the ImperialAcademy.org domain have worked and are starting to filter through to the ISP-level. ISPs that now definitely work now include:

New Star Wars game in the making

LucasArts has unveiled plans for the PC 2D Real-Time Strategy game Star Wars Battleground developed by Ensemble Studios, creators the Age of Empires series...most likely to make up for revenues lost from LucasArts' previous RTS lemon, Force Commander. The game is set to be released in Fall 2001.

Wing X CMDR promoted

Darklord has served as the Wing Commander of Wing X successfully for several months, showing dedication to his Wing and inspiring his pilots. A very deserving promotion :)

SM/2 hits 500

Squadron Management 2 has finally made it to the 500 graduate mark. This makes SM/2 the 4th most taken course (only narrowly beating IIC/1 on 496).

EH Ladder is online!

After many months, the EH Ladder is finally online. The ladder features divisions for X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Jedi Knight and X-Wing Alliance. The ladder is pretty much automated. The only human interaction is the reporting of matches (and signing up, of course). The ladder code takes care of all the score/win/loss/draw incrementing, as well as the ladder displaying code and emailing off the pretty match confirmation emails (which are in colour-coded HTML, to match the colours of each ladder.).
